Miami Golf
Doral Park Golf and Country Club (5001 NW 104th Ave. 305/591-8800
or 305/594-0954—no relation to the Doral Resort and Spa) is one
of the most popular courses. This challenging 18-hole course is a favorite
with locals, so advanced bookings are recommended. The course is open
from 6:30am to 6pm during the winter and until 7pm during the summer.
The golf courses at the Doral Resort and Spa (4400 N.W.
87th Avenue / 1-800-71-DORAL) are some of the most famous in Miami—including
the Blue Monster Course, the Gold Course, the Great White Shark Course
and Silver Course. Guests and groups of all skill levels can discover
a wealth of possibilities here at the “Kingdom of Golf.”
The Golf Club of Miami (6801 Miami Gardens Dr. at NW
68th Avenue 305/829-8456) is one of the best in the city. It has three
18-hole courses of varying degrees of difficulty. The course is open daily
from 6:30am to sunset. Cart and greens fees are $45 to $75 per person
during the winter, and $20 to $34 per person during the summer. Special
twilight rates are available.
Miami Beaches
The 85th Street Beach, along Collins Avenue, is the best
place to swim away from the crowds. Lifeguards patrol the area throughout
the day.
Haulover Beach Park (10800 Collins Ave. 305/944-3040),
just north of Miami Beach, has the best surfing waves to catch.
Miami Beach — Central
(Collins Ave. - 21st St. to 46th St.
305/673-7714), is great for strolls along the boardwalk that rise above the dunes. Stop by the cafes that line the sidewalk and parking is free.
