Miami Beach Tourism
Guest of the Days Hotel Thunderbird will find helpful Miami Beach tourism information and tips on this page. Make your vacation easier by getting to know some simple rules of Miami before visiting. Follow these links to find other helpful information.
Miami Parking
There is plenty of metered parking available. When parking, pay attention to the amount of time and rate indicated on the meter. The fine for an expired meter is $18; $45 if not paid within 30 calendar days.
Locals know "cabbing" it in South Beach is easy and inexpensive, but if you have to drive, call the City of Miami Beach's Parking Hotline (tel: 305/673-PARK) for garages convenient to where you're going. Many parking garages fill up at peak times. This is particularly true in Miami Beach and Coconut Grove. Thankfully, these neighborhoods are the most pedestrian friendly in Greater Miami. On Miami Beach, valet parking is offered at most dining and entertainment venues.
Rules of the Road
Keep change handy since toll roads are frequent; tolls can range from 50¢ to as much as $1.50. All front-seat passengers are required to wear seat belts, and children under five must be fastened securely in child safety seats or boosters; children under 12 are required to ride in the rear seat. Florida's Alcohol/Controlled Substance DUI Law is one of the toughest in the U.S. A blood alcohol level of.08 or higher can have serious repercussions.
Bicyclists in Miami
Good weather and flat terrain make Miami great for bicycling, but given traffic and limited bike paths, it shouldn't be your first choice for general transportation. Miami-Dade Transit's "Bike and Ride" program allows cyclists with permits (free) to take single-seat two-wheelers on Metrorail and select bus routes. Bicycles are allowed on Metrorail weekdays before 6:30 AM, from 10-4, and after 6:30 PM, and anytime on weekends and major holidays.
